La Dante opens the Celebrations for the Italian Language in the World by presenting Dr. Lara Gochin Raffaelli and her recently published translation of “Il Piacere” by Gabriele D’Annunzio, one of the greatest author of last century’s Italian literature.

About Dr. Lara Gochin Raffaelli:
She has taught Italian language and literature at the University of Cape Town and is an Honorary Research Associate. She lived in Italy for 10 years before transferring back to Cape Town with her family in 2003. Her research has largely centred on the work of Maria Messina (on whose work she did her PhD) and currently, on that of Gabriele D’Annunzio (on whose novels she did her Masters degree at Wits University). In July 2013 her translation of D’Annunzio’s Il piacere was published with the title Pleasure by Penguin Classics, New York – a critical edition. She is busy on a translation of L’innocente.
