She lived in Italy for 10 years before transferring back to Cape Town with her family in 2003. Her research has largely centred on the work of Maria Messina (on whose work she did her PhD) and currently, on that of Gabriele D&#8217;Annunzio (on whose novels she did her Masters degree at Wits University). In July 2013 her translation of D&#8217;Annunzio&#8217;s Il piacere was published with the title Pleasure by Penguin Classics, New York \u2013 a critical edition.
