{"id":192,"date":"2023-04-03T18:23:50","date_gmt":"2023-04-03T16:23:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consolatocapetown.esteri.it\/italia-e-sud-africa\/"},"modified":"2025-10-01T11:56:32","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T09:56:32","slug":"italia-e-sud-africa","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/conscapetown.esteri.it\/en\/italia-e-sud-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Italy and South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Relations between Italy and South Africa are excellent<\/strong> and rest on two key pillars: the historic and well-integrated Italian community in the country (over 37,000 Italians registered with AIRE in 2023), and Italy\u2019s longstanding support for the anti-apartheid struggle, which remains a vivid and appreciated memory within the ANC, currently in power.<\/p>\n<p>Italy\u2019s primary objective is to intensify bilateral relations with South Africa at all levels\u2014starting with political and economic ties and extending to cultural and scientific cooperation\u2014with the aim of establishing a broad strategic partnership.<\/p>\n<p>The Italian diplomatic and consular network is composed of the Embassy in Pretoria, the Consulate General in Johannesburg (which also absorbed the jurisdiction of the former Consulate in Durban upon its closure), and the Consulate in Cape Town.
