APPOINTMENT OF A NEW HONORARY VICE CONSUL IN EAST LONDON

It is noted that the Consulate of Italy in Cape Town intends to proceed with the appointment of a new Honorary Vice Consul in East London, who will be called upon to assist Italian citizens residing in the jurisdiction of competence. The new Honorary Vice Consul replaces Mr. Enrico Contardo who will resign due to age limits. Expressions of interest for this appointment can be sent by October 15, 2020 to the e-mail address consolato.capetown@esteri.it  and must include the Curriculum Vitae of the interested party and a photocopy of an identity document.

It should be noted that the selection in question will not take place on the basis of a competitive or para-competitive procedure. In fact, it should be noted that the honorary consular officers are chosen by the competent Italian Administration “among persons preferably of Italian citizenship, who enjoy esteem and prestige and are fully confident in being able to adequately fulfill consular functions” (Article 47, paragraph I of DPR 5 January 1967, no. 18). It is also advisable to note that candidates for the position must be resident in the metropolitan area of East London and preferably have sufficient proficiency of the Italian language.

Finally, it is recalled that the conferment of an appointment for the exercise of honorary consular functions does not constitute a public employment relationship or a subordinate employment relationship, being rather a voluntary service relationship for the performance of honorary duties in favor of the State free of charge.
