COVID-19 emergency - Consular services

In the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Consulate continues to operate to assist Italian citizens and makes provisions for essential services.

The Italian citizens who, for reasons of extreme necessity and urgency, intend to return to Italy as soon as possible, are requested to register on-line by filling out the following form

and they will in turn be promptly contacted if a special flight becomes available.

In compliance with the strict measures adopted by the Italian and South African authorities to contain the spread of COVID-19, public access is allowed only by appointment. The following measures are in place when visiting the Consulate:

  • Body temperature control will be performed at the entrance.
  • Sanitizing of hands are compulsory before entering
  • The social distancing measures adopted since the start of the pandemic are confirmed (no more than 1 person may be present in the respective waiting room).
  • Visitors will only be allowed access if wearing a face mask which covers the nose and mouth.

It is important to note that many consular practices can be carried out or started remotely, directly from one's home or workplace, without the need to personally go to the Consulate:

In particular:

  • Through the FAST-IT portal it is possible to request registration with AIRE and change of address.
  • By sending an email to consolato.capetown@esteri.it  you can proceed to request a Fiscal Code
  • By post or courier you can send birth certificates (for minors under 18 years), marriage and death, duly apostilled and the documentation necessary to start the driving license renewal procedures
  • To issue or renew your passport, you can request an appointment by writing to passaporti.capetown@esteri.it .Citizens who had already booked an appointment through the "`Prenota Online" platform will be contacted to reschedule the service as soon as possible.
  • For other urgent practices (notarial deeds, citizenship, visas), you can request an appointment using the dedicated e-mail addresses (capetown.notarile@esteri.it  / capetown.consolare@esteri.it  / visa.capetown@esteri.it).

Finally, please note that, for urgent and immediate assistance, the following EMERGENCY NUMBERS are active 24 hours a day:
