Voting in Italy – deadlines
The General Election will take place in Italy on 4 March 2018.
If you are in Italy on that date and wish to vote in Italy you need to send your Option form (see below) by 8 January 2018.
Voting by mail – deadlines
If you reside abroad (outside of Italy) your voting papers will be mailed to you. Mailing deadline: 14 February.
If you haven’t received your voting papers by 18 February you may apply for a duplicate to be sent or collected at the Consulate.
The voted papers need to be returned to the Consulate by post or by hand by 1 March 2018 so that they can be sent to Italy.
Please be aware that voting is secret, you may not let anyone vote in your place. Please make sure you keep your voting papers safe and private before returning them to the Consulate.
Voters with a different temporary residence at the time of the General Election
a. Voters who reside in Italy but for specific reasons will be away from Italy during the General Election may send a request by 31 January 2018 to their Municipality of residence requesting to vote by mail in a different country – more information
b. Voters who are registered with a Consulate but will be in a different Consular jurisdiction at the time of voting may send a request to their Consulate of registration by 31 January 2018 to vote by mail at their temporary residence– more information.

- 02.01.2018 On December 29, 2017 the decree to call for the General Election was issued, the date of which will be March 4, 2018. The new deadline for opting to vote in Italy is 8 January 2018.
