Emanuele Pollio

Consul of Italy in Cape Town

Born in Piano di Sorrento (Naples) on October 14, 1985. He graduated in Political Science and International Relations at the Scuola Superiore Sant' Anna of Pisa, with a thesis on the role of the United States of America in the process of European integration. He completed his studies at the Université libre de Bruxelles and the College of Europe in Bruges, where he obtained a Masters in International and Diplomatic Relations. In the academic field, he is the author of essays and publications on transatlantic relations and on the role of the European Union in the international scenario.

He entered the diplomatic service in 2011 and began his professional career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Directorate General for Resources and Innovation, where he was responsible for the management and articulation of the foreign network, and at the Directorate General for the European Union in the "Justice and Internal Affairs" sector.

From 2015 to 2019 he served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Sofia, where he held the positions of Head of the Consular Chancellery and Head of the Economic-Commercial Office, coordinating activities of assistance for Italian nationals and companies operating in Bulgaria or those interested in entering the Bulgarian market.

From 4 February 2019 he is Consul of Italy in Cape Town with territorial jurisdiction of the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape Provinces, as well as the St. Helena island, part of the British Overseas Territory. He is married to Lucia De Maio and has a daughter, Maria Sofia, and a son, Alessandro.
